The Expendables 4 has been in some form of development since 2014, the year Expendables 3 hit theaters.
Filming finally wrapped in mid-October 2021, but the film is now a spin-off centered on Jason Statham’s character, titled A Christmas Story.
The four mercenaries will return: Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Randy Couture.
This time, Statham’s Lee Christmas will be the main character, with Stallone making his final appearance as Barney Ross.
Jean-Claude Van Damme also publicly floated the idea of playing his Expendables 2 villain’s twin brother Jean Vilain, but it never materialized.
Iko Uwais is set to play the villain in The Expendables 4. His character is described as a former soldier turned arms dealer who has built his own private army.
Andy Garcia will play a CIA agent assigned to accompany the Expendables on their perilous mission.
The cast also includes Tony Jaa, Megan Fox, 50 Cent, Eddie Hall, Sheila Shah, Levy Tran and Jacob Scipio.
Scott Waugh will direct the film from a script by Spenser Cohen, with revisions by Max Adams and John Joseph Connolly.
Schwarzenegger explained: “Without Sly there is no ‘Expendables’. I would never do the film without him, no. You know, I think the first part and the second part are great. But on the third, I felt my part was not well written. In my opinion, the film didn’t do well either. Maybe other people believed differently. But I didn’t think I had any value in the film. I love the franchise by the way. I think it’s a spectacular franchise, The Expendables. I think Sly has good ideas about what to do with it, and I think if they write a really good script where my role is very well developed, I would do it. If not, then I won’t.”
The Expendables 4 is expected to be released in 2022, but no release date has been set yet
Stallone recently announced that the upcoming movie “Expendables 4” will be R-rated and will be significantly bloodier and darker than the first three. However, it is not yet confirmed if Stallone will reprise his role. He would probably focus on making a sequel to Creed.
There were many rumors that Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Jack Nicholson, Clint Eastwood, Hulk Hogan and Manny Pacquiao would join the cast, but nothing has not been confirmed.
The latest rumor has it that Steven Seagal will be joining the cast of The Expendables 4 as the main villain. Seagal simply responded on his Twitter account, “It’s being discussed.”

Sylvester Stallone publicly announced a few weeks ago that he plans to start filming The Expendables 4 in Asia.
“We’ve always wanted to work with Jackie, but due to a lack of central roles, no agreement could be reached. In the next part, however, we will certainly try to get him on board. For The Expendables 4 we are trying to reduce the number of stars and increase their individual screen time. Let’s see how that goes!” Stallone added.
“I don’t want to be on their team and be friends with them. Fuck that noise. I want to hunt down every single one of them and tell them, “Send your soul to heaven because your ass is mine,” Rock said.
